What made me pursue my career-B.S. Psychology

I was often fascinated by individuals of different behaviors exhibiting different emotions. I wonder how personality, cognition and social relationships developed, influenced and change over the course of a lifetime. I have heard of a course that focuses and studies about these things – Psychology. But these did not satisfy me to take that career. It was until our last volunteer work during my high school years.

I was preparing our food when I felt a tug on my sleeve. Turning, I found my self face to face with a child. She was begging me to give her some food because it was two days ago since her last meal. I took pity on her and when I was about to hand her a sandwich, a lady came rushing and abruptly took the sandwich. I found out that the lady was the child’s mother. What was more was I found out that the mother was suffering from insanity. As they start their journey, I wonder if what could I possibly do more the help them. I know that the sandwich will last for hours but if the fullness subsides they will again face the life’s uncertainty. I developed empathy for them and for those people who are going through the same thing. I felt a sudden urge to work in a community to help underprivileged children and their parents. I want to understand what caused other people to have psychological and emotional illness. It made me pursue B.S, Psychology. With its various fields, I know that It will equip me with the knowledge needed to learn, understand and help them.

My education will prepare me to be knowledgeable to things I might encounter in the future. I also believe that my education will prepare me to help unfortunate people and contribute to my countries development. Indeed, education is the best weapon against the bondage of poverty, because with it, I can be capable of having good jobs and opportunities to help my country rise from poverty. It will give me ideas which I can use to turn Philippines into a progressive country. It will also help me to realize more of our real situation and thus motivate me to make further move to support our government in its endeavors. With my education, I can have so many opportunities to help people with their lives and sad plights, educate them about personality, lives and status. If I could help them to understand and gain insights on how to alleviate their conditions, somehow they could be better and this will contribute and lead to countries development and progress.
